New to Me November: Crop and Straighten Photos

Tue Nov 01, 2016 7:23 pm

Most of us have scanned photos from our photo albums and know what a time consuming job that can be.

Too often the photos turn out crooked as well.

Photoshop can help with this problem.

1. Scan some photos or place start a new file and drag some photos into it. Be careful not to overlap the photos.

2. Merge the layers if you are using a new file/drag some photos option like I did above.

3. From the top menu, choose: File/Automate/Crop and Straighten Photos.

4. Wait for Photoshop to complete the task. You should see each photo appear separately.

It may not turn out perfect, but this method can save you a lot of time.
(Mine left a bit of white around the edges that was easily taken care of with the Crop Tool.

I usually crop amd straighten in Lightroom, but I'll give this method a try.

This was quick and easy. I'll have to do this with some of the other photos I scanned in groups.

This is one of my older scans, before I realised I could select and scan them separately with my scanner's software.

I put the cropped and straightened photos on a red background for contrast.

I cut a bit off the bottom of the one with the white background. For the others I selected the problem areas and filled with the blue. I also fixed a few random spots and scuffs using the same method. Now they look even better than the originals.

Wonderful job, moog. Love it when there's a method that works faster or better.

Be sure to share with us ANY thing you find in Photoshop that is a time saver or to be helpful.

The same for all of us...let's make this a shared tutorial forum.

You can start your own subject or keeping adding to a present one.

I never knew this could be done - Way Cool time saver!!! Thanks for the tutorial TB.

I did put the straightened photos on another color background, but the tiny bit of white on the edges really doesn't show. It would be another quick fix to crop it off.
